What are you thankful for?     I’m thankful for a lot of things but most of all for having a healthy loving family, and the ability to worship with out fear of persecution.

Sometimes being thankful that you workout will strike you in the most unusual ways.  I know there have been several instances where I have been thankful for being in shape.  Being able to play pickup games with your friends or go for hike without feeling like you are going to hyperventilate, have the energy to horse around with your children after work, or moving furniture or lifting heavy boxes without getting hurt.  These are some of the things I am thankful for being able to do without pain or soreness because I workout consistently.  These everyday activities that we all do are often overlooked when it comes to health and fitness and instead the focus is on vanity or strictly on weight loss.  Every workout plan should focus on functional strength.  Functional strength training exercises are aimed at improving your body’s ability to handle everyday tasks, eliminate injuries, and muscular imbalances.

Reason #1:  Being Able to Live an Active Lifestyle.

The ability to engage in any physical activity you desire without second guessing it or feeling afraid.

Reason #2:  Recover from Surgery or Accidents Faster.

This is one we hear all the time when someone has surgery or is recovering from an accident, being fit before surgery or an accident speeds your recovery time.

Reason #3:  Fight off Viruses and Illness Better and Faster.

Keeping a regular exercise routine enhances your immune system, which helps you fight of viruses and recover from illnesses faster.

Reason #4:  Active Recovery

Active recovery is your body’s ability to make adjustment when you lose your balance.  It can help you avoid a fall, react faster to a trip, and can help prevent serious injury.

Reason #5:  Prevent Muscle and Bone Loss

A regular exercise routine that includes weight training and weight bearing exercise is the only way to slow down muscle loss, and bone density loses as age.

Here are my top five often overlooked reasons to be thankful you workout.  These 5 reasons affect each and everyone one of us.  Try mixing up the focus of your fitness goals like losing weight or inches and instead focus on all the positive impacts exercise has on your daily life.  Think of exercise, fitness, health, and wellness as a lifelong quest and not a short term fix.  Whatever your goals are if you focus on longevity and always remember that Time + Consistency = Results, every time!
